Q: What is the meaning and concept behind the name of your music project?
Lakewaves is the solo instrumental electronic moniker of producer Graham Marlowe, a.k.a. Lakewaves, originating from the 2011 track "Lake Waves" (Corduroy Resignation). When performing as the Lakewaves Trio, the project transforms into a neo-retro jazz fusion and psychedelic jam rock experience. Heavily inspired by a Grateful Dead-esque ethos, the Trio thrives on a cinematic, risk-taking shared flow-state. It is a musical space defined by deep improvisational trust, pushing the boundaries of live instrumental music.

Q: Tell us about your Biography as an artist
Emerging from the digital mist of "synthesizer graffiti artist" Graham Marlowe (a.k.a., Lakewaves), Lakewaves Trio crafts the soundtrack to a forgotten midnight. Known for their signature blend of aquatic textures, chopped lounge rhythms, and hazy, nostalgic soundscapes, the project treats music like a VHS tape left out in the rain. For their contribution to the Dawn of Darkness compilation, Lakewaves Trio steers their usual sun-faded yacht into much deeper, murkier waters. They trade the warm glow of mall soft neon for the cold, eerie shadows of the late-night web, proving that even paradise has a dark side.

Psychedelic instrumental, Afrobeat/Afro-funk, trip-hop, Hindustani classical music (ex: tabla/sitar improvisations, like Ravi Shanar's solo albums), jazz from all eras, rock from all eras, indie-rock, film/soundtrack, ambient/prog groups like Tangerine Dream and Ulrich Schnauss, pedal steel acid country (ex: The Grateful Dead - "The Wheel" from Grateful Dead Movie, 1976), "country jazz" (ex: Danny Gatton), Impressionist & Romantic-era piano music, Phish, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, The Black Crowes, Soulive, Medeski Martin & Wood, avant-garde experimental & classical, neo-classical classics like "Phrygian Gates" by John Adams. Funk music, vaporwave, synthwave, Brothertiger, CFCF, Hotel Pools, etc. Kaki King. Ian Ethan Case. Andy McKee. Fingerstyle guitar artists. Def Sonic. For the Trio material, Lakewaves Trio's Vol. 2 (2023)Impatient for the Ecstatic. High-intensity grooves searching for immediate spiritual payoff. Explicitly felt on tracks like “Shakedown at the Disco Roll-A-Rena, Feb 11 1979” where Carter-administration melodies collide with grunge.

Instagram - not all friends are created equal, easier to break through the algorithms on there than the overcrowded, sometimes-abysmal Facebook algorithms

- any funny anecdote in the composition of a track or album?
Most of the titles are based off real-life headlines I've found (ex: "Punches Fly Over Prom Princess, October 1981"), real-life occurrences (ex: "California Zephyr Train Leaves One Behind [A Cigarette Break Gone Horribly Awry]" or things I made up that became real (ex: "Finder's Keepers at Fort Knox, Apparently"). I try to emulate The Flaming Lips in that their song titles are bonkers but the coolness of the music allows it to live up to the hype of its title ["Chuck E. Cheese Stakeholders Meeting" by Lakewaves Trio vs. "Virgo Self-Esteem Broadcast" by The Flaming Lips)

*New album coming out October 2026 with a side project band, Bruce Wasserstrom's WasserSTORM feat. Lakewaves Trio; album is called Subpoena Colada with artwork done by @spacekatart
*New editions of the JustJams live bootleg mixtape series coming out this month and later 2026
*Performed at InfraSound music festival (may 15 2026), which was a big step for us. We also got into Summer Camp (northern Illinois) but it ended up getting cancelled.
*Performed for a national artist (Luke Schneider) as well as well-known regional acts like Mossmen, this year
*Performed as part of the new Yahara River Night Market series as well as Yahara Distillery
*Crossover into the DJ/dance/house/electronic crowd coming in November when we open up an event in Madison called Rips N' Spins put on by @darkendabe (Dabe Okoli)
