Interview to Fabio Keiner
First say welcome to this written interview for Cian Orbe blog. Today we did an interview to the austrian composer Fabio Keiner.
- Do you release music only under Fabio Keiner name? do you have other
active or past music projects or monikers?
no, only Fabio Keiner. Keiner is keiner - 'keiner' means 'nobody' in german.
- Which are the concept behind your music, how you categorize your own
work?
if there is a concept, then it's my old motto since school-days: I hate music, but I love sound.
- Favorite music genres?
ambient, not just dark ambient. and gregorian chorals, overtone chanting, maybe.
- In what year did you start making music? which was your first band/project?
as I remember in 2000 - magical year (of first vst synthesizers for me)
- Which inspiration you have from the place where you live? There's some
inspiration from your country in your music?
To be honest, almost nothing from austrian folklore neither from famous
viennese classics.
- Which are your favorite music projects and visual/plastic artists/ writers,
who inspire your work?
What brought me to (ambient) music was one person - a singulare composer:
Giacinto Scelsi
- How do you see the current dark ambient, drone, experimental music scene?
As far as I can judge (very little, indeed), it got kind of stuck in its development...
which is a shame.
- Favorite dark, classical, ambient, soundtrack, drone music composers?
Humanfobia, of course! :))
- Do you make live performances?
No, never.
- We know also your beautiful photographic work. tell us more about it. When
you start your work as photographer?
More or less at 2000, too. it was also digital photography and the internet which
pushed me to start with.
- Which is your favorite song or composition and album created by yourself?
Maybe... 'Duu'a' - it's to be found at my site at jamendo.com
duu'a means prayer in arab and muslim culture - a spontaneous cry for help.
- Tell us about the concept & the creation process of one of your latest works
" "Tremendum" released by Cian Orbe and also if you want, tell us about your
latest self-released work: "yidam"
yidan: https://fabiokeiner.bandcamp.com/album/yidam
tremendum: https://cianorbe2nd.bandcamp.com/album/tremendum-cior-433
Tremendum came to me in the course of the first 2-3 months of this year...
when corona/covid-epidemic started to rage. tremendum is the feeling of awe
in a sacred place by the presence of a god/spirit force. Yidam is a helpful deity
in tibetan buddhism/bön-rituals in bardo meditations.
- Tell us about the underground music scene in Austria or in the place that
you are currently established, and which are your favorite artists from your
country?
Lamentably; i almost have no contact with that very small scene. the closest to
that would be the romanian group Thy Veils.
- Any anecdote that you want to share with us in the creation of some track?
my girl-friend got first seizures and then a full blown orgasm just by listening to
'7 jisei' when I played it for final mastering :)) so, be careful when listening! :))
- Any news for 2021 in your music project or future collaborations?
if I get fine female vocal samples - an overtone opera: 'totentanz'. an old project
of mine - never more actual than in corona-times.
- Any other thing that you want to say to your listeners?
stay safe& healthy: take care! LIFE KILLS...
and love is hate (so very often lamentably)
